MAC Girl About Town, Lady Danger and Red, partaaay in a lipstick tube!

I loooove bold lippies, somehow I find them easier to wear than the nude and coral ones I have. I own three bold lipsticks from MAC: the Girl About Town, Lady Danger and Red; in my opinion spot on descriptive names.

Prep and prime those puckers!
Just like my skin, my lips are also quite dry. I want people to look at my lips in admiration not in pitty :). So to prevent the lipsticks from getting flaky on me I apply a layer of Prep + Prime Lip balm first.

The texture of the Prep + Prime Lip actually feels like chapstick on the lips, except the Prep + Prime doesn't leave a slippery layer so it creates a good moisturised base on your lips without affecting the finish of the lipstick whether it be amplified, satin, matte, cremesheen and so on.

The swatches

Girl about town: fuchsia pink with blue undertones, amplified finish, super pigmented but can also be worn subtle if you use only one or two layers. Very hard to wear off, which is a plus.

Lady Danger: orangy-red colour, matte and so bright it almost glows in the dark! There's no way you can wear this subtle, definitely a head turner.

Red: satin finish, blue undertones, so no making your teeth look yellow with this one. A bit of a glossy finish.

Lip pencils
The lipsticks could be worn on it's own. But the MAC Red does need some extra attention, as I personally find it hard to stay within the contour of my lips. I use the MAC Cherry lip pencil to accommodate this, leaving me with a polished look. Using lip pencil will also make the lipstick less glossy, more matte, the latter being the look I prefer on myself.

When I want to bring out the purple in Girl About Town I pair the lipstick with the MAC Magenta lip pencil. Magenta is a bright yet deep purple, that I actually also like to use without lipstick. Of course I have to slather on a thick layer of Prep + Prime first, as lip pencils are quite drying.

The Lady Danger is the only one I don't ever use with lip pencil. It's so matte it's easy to correct with a Q-Tip.

In conclusionI love all three of these lippies, but if I could only keep one it would be Lady Danger. For the record I'm NC25-30, yellow skinned (obviously) and usually have my hair brownish-caramel. The orange-red from Lady Danger suits my skintone well, and seems to fit my skintone all year round. The Red is gorgeous but smudgy and will most likely be worn off after 2 drinks and halfway the second course of your meal. The Girl About Town however is hard to remove, and will at least leave a pink stain on your lips until you wash it off (with a waterproof make-up remover). I find this lipstick not looking as good when my hair gets to a more caramel colour (due to fading), it seems to look better when my hair is darker, so I'm saving it for when my hair is a more chocolate brown again :).

I have heard and seen great things of MAC's Ruby Woo and am considering getting it. It's more red than Lady Danger and more matte than Red, exactly what I'm still missing in my stack of red-ish lipsticks it seems :).

On another note, I'm still on the look out for the perfect subtle lipstick :(. I want the 'my-lips-but-better'-look, please let me knnow if you've any suggestions :).

Thanks for dropping by Xx
